Shimkus Statement on Net Neutrality Decision

Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement after the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) net neutrality rules:

“This is why we need to rewrite the Communications Act. Instead of applying laws from 1935 to today’s Internet economy, the FCC should instead be taking steps to incentivize the build-out of broadband infrastructure and increase innovation-driven competition in the Internet service market. There’s a better way to protect consumers from blocking and throttling without stifling innovation or delaying build-out. That way requires action by Congress.”
