Shimkus Statement on H.R. 6800 and H. Res. 967
Collinsville, Illinois – Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinos-15) released the following statement on H.R. 6800 and H. Res. 967:
"I’m proud of the unprecedented resources Congress has already made available — through bipartisan legislation signed into law by President Trump — to individuals, families, states, and businesses large and small.
"Further action by Congress may be required before life returns to normal, but the rush to leverage this situation to reverse 200 years of House precedent and advance partisan political priorities like cash payments to illegal immigrants and nationwide vote-by-mail mandates is shameful and an affront to the Constitution.
"The majority of my constituents don’t want more handouts, they want to safely reopen their communities and get back to their churches, their jobs, and their lives.
"While family responsibilities again prevent me from casting recorded votes today, I oppose both the Speaker’s $3 trillion boondoggle and unconstitutional proxy voting scheme."
